Nestorian Infested Population

infestedpopulation

Way overdue, but here it is..the Infested of Nestorian!

Way back in January we asked for help in making NPCs for the Nestorian Infestation setting.

The response was overwhelming as #nestorianinfestedpopulation showed!

As my photo setup isn’t the best Helge got the honours and the result is a stunner!

A blind man sees with his faith.” That is at least what Preacher Tobias always believed. Being born as a commoner, he was raised with the imperial creed daily on his lips.
But his true faith was to be found after his draft to the Imperial Guard and the accident, taking his eyesight.
During a live fire exercise a faulty grenade detonated prematurely and took his eyes. Washed out as unsuitable for combat duty, all that remained was his faith. And so he wandered around, preaching the word of the God-Emperor when…
There was a discordant hum of inhuman voices!

There was a loud blast as of many beastial roars at once!

There was a harsh grating as of a thousand claws underneath!

The fiery walls of the Hive collapsed as the ground disappeared.

An outstreched arm caught Tobias’ hand as he fell, fainting, into the Abyss.

It was that of Nestorian.

The cultists had entered the Hive.

We where in the hands of our enemies.

I gasped for breath! There could be no doubt of the design of my tormentors — oh! Most unrelenting! Oh! Most demoniac of men! I shrank from the pulsing flesh to the centre of the cell. Amid the thought of the fiery destruction that impended, the idea of the coolness of the well came over my soul like balm. I rushed to its deadly brink. I threw my straining senses below.

Yet, for a wild moment, did my spirit refuse to comprehend the meaning of what I felt. At length it forced — it wrestled its way into my soul — it burned itself in upon my shuddering reason. — oh! For a voice to speak! — oh! Horror! — oh! Any horror but this! With a shriek, I rushed from the margin, and buried my face in my hands, weeping bitterly.

Who am I..

– Tobias, prior to the Infestation

Text is an excerpt from Edgar Allan Poe’s short story “The Pit and the Pendolum” merged with parts of fluff that Christopher Buck sent along with his miniatures. Both are slightly modified to fit the context of the Nestorian Infestation setting.

Fantastic textures on the terrain! How did you achieve them?

    • The Nestorian Infestation is a collaborative project primarily between me and Helge of Wilhelminiatures fame. He hosts the games and make the terrain while I run the campaign and narrative.

So long answer short, I’ll ask him to respond here 😅

    • The texture was achieved by applying several layers of wood-glue, sand, earth and static grass. On some areas I also added crackle paint. It’s important to vary the texture types when doing large areas like this. Its also important to remember that you can’t have too much texture. You can always apply another layer of glue and sand!

  5. Well done, everybody!
